Germany Cannabis Home-Grow Limit: Three Plants per Adult
For broader adult-use rules beyond home cultivation, see Germany's cannabis law guide.
The three-plant rule
The Federal Ministry of Health says an eligible adult may grow up to three cannabis plants at a time at their residence or habitual abode for personal consumption. The limit is per adult, not per household. Plants may not be passed to other people from a person's private cultivation.
Who qualifies
The rule applies to adults whose residence or habitual abode has been in Germany for at least six months. The Ministry's guidance also says plants and cannabis must be protected from children, juveniles and third parties. Appropriate precautions can include a lockable cabinet or room. Growing must not create unacceptable nuisance or disturbance for neighbours.
Plant count is not a possession limit
The plant rule is separate from possession amounts. BMG lists up to 25 grams of dried cannabis that an adult may carry and up to 50 grams of dried cannabis in the private sphere at their residence or habitual abode. Do not treat three plants as permission to exceed those separate limits. Verify the current KCanG and official guidance, particularly if your residence status or situation differs.
