Ontario Cannabis Home-Grow in Rentals: Check Four Conditions First
The provincial baseline and property condition
Ontario's cannabis-law page says a person aged 19 or older may grow up to four plants per residence--not per person--for personal use, if the starting material came from the Ontario Cannabis Store or an authorized retail store and growing is not forbidden by the lease agreement or condo rules. Those conditions are part of the rule; the four-plant number alone is not permission for every rental.
Questions to check in your lease or condo rules
Before buying seeds or plants, check: (1) the signed lease and any written amendments; (2) condominium declarations, bylaws and rules that apply to the unit; (3) whether the starting material is from a source Ontario recognizes; and (4) local requirements that may affect the property. Ask specifically about cultivation rather than relying on a general smoking clause or an informal conversation. Keep a copy of the reply.
If the terms are unclear
Ask the landlord or condo corporation for the applicable written rule. If growing could affect your housing or a dispute is developing, get advice from a qualified Ontario tenant service or lawyer. This article cannot determine whether a particular clause is valid, whether it applies to a specific property, or how a tribunal would resolve a dispute.

Quick FAQ
Does Ontario allow four plants in every rental?
No. The provincial guidance makes lease and condo restrictions one of the conditions; check the actual documents before acting.
Is the limit four per adult?
No. Ontario says four plants per residence, not per person.
Can I use seeds from any source?
Ontario's page specifies starting material purchased from the Ontario Cannabis Store or an authorized retail store. Health Canada separately says seeds or immature plants must come from a legal source.
