Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Card Renewal: Steps and Timing
Pennsylvania renewal at a glance
The Pennsylvania Department of Health says patients receive an email 60 days before their patient certification and ID card expire. Renewal has two separate parts: a new patient certification and the annual program payment. Their due dates may not match.
Renew the certification and card
- Watch for the state reminder within the 60-day renewal window.
- Obtain a new certification from any practitioner registered with the program; it need not be the practitioner who issued the prior certification.
- Keep your patient-portal mailing address current. If annual payment is up to date, the state says a new card is printed and mailed after certification. Continue using the current card until the renewal card's issue date, as the state directs.
Track the separate annual fee
The annual payment is not tied to the card's expiration date. The Department says it sends a separate reminder 30 days before payment is due. Its renewal page lists a $50 payment, or $0 for eligible fee-reduction participants. Pay by the account-specific due date to avoid a lapse in activation.
